Actor Pedro Pascal Joins Gladiator 2 Film Project

Ridley Scott's upcoming Gladiator 2 film will feature The Mandalorian and The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal as its newest star. Scott's sequel to the Oscar-winning film has already assembled a stellar cast including Paul Mescal, who will play Lucius, along with Barry Keoghan, Joseph Quinn, Connie Nielsen and Denzel Washington.

The film will follow Lucius, a boy who is the nephew of the evil Commodus and son of Commodus' sister Lucilla, with Nielsen reprising his role from the first film. After Lucius witnesses Maximus' bravery and sacrifice in his fight against an insane ruler, he decides that he doesn't want to be a successor to the Roman throne, but instead becomes a gladiator, like Maximus.

Pedro Pascal himself made waves with his eccentric role as Prince Oberyn Martell in HBO's flagship series Game of Thrones. Despite his brief appearance, the character was an instant hit with fans, especially for the grisly manner of his death at the hands of The Mountain. He then appeared as Din Djarin on the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, as a father figure to young Grogu and the two have been inseparable ever since.

At the end of the recently concluded Season 3, we saw them finally settle down in Nevarro. But Pascal is probably on the minds of millions of fans around the world because of his role as Joel Miller in The Last of Us. She plays a fan favorite character who is tasked with transporting a young girl across the United States in hopes of finding a cure for the Cordyceps infection that has plagued the post-apocalypse world.

Next he will appear opposite Ethan Hawke in Pedro Almódovar's short film, Strange Way of Life. The film will premiere at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. She will also appear in Ethan Coen's latest film, Drive Away Dolls, and in Anna Boden's film, Freaky Tales, which will be released later this year.

Filming is expected to begin later this year, with Scott returning to direct the upcoming film and David Scarpa as writer. In addition to directing the film's sequel, Scott will also serve as producer through his Scott Free label with Michael Pruss.

The film Gladiator first hit theaters in 2000 and received critical acclaim and box office success, which led to several Academy Award wins, such as Best Picture. The film's success ultimately thrust Russell Crowe's career into the spotlight, and spawned a short-lived revival of the epic film genre during the 2000s.
